I cook a lot. By that, I actually mean, A LOT. EVERY. FREAKING. DAY. We can’t always count on the kitchen tools we have available to us at any given Airbnb rental, so we’ve prioritized space in our car for a bare-bones kitchen on-the-go. What’s listed below is even less than what we traveled with in 2016, and everything gets used multiple times per week. So, if you’re interested in absolute necessities (granted there are no plates, cups, or cutlery here, but who needs those anyway?), here you go:
Instant pot: pressure cooker extraordinaire! I make bone broth, roasts, steam vegetables, and make all sorts of stuff in here
12″ cast iron skillet, 10″ ScanPan, collapsable steamer basket, and a strainer
Water filter that fits on any standard faucet, a smoothie jar, an assortment of ziplock bags
Travis’ coffee gear: an Aeropress and travel grinder
I carry about 10 spices in a gallon size ziplock, plus this super cool travel spice container, some EVOO, and Himalayan fancy salt
I always have some dishwasher thingies, homemade veggie wash (3:1 water to vinegar), I currently have some leftover laundry detergent in a collapsable water bottle, and we travel with just 2 cleaning supplies: Shaklee’s Basic H (all purpose cleaner) and Basic G (germicide), plus their little concentrate squeeze bottles for easy refills.
All of these kitchen gadgets fit in to a jumbo 2.5 gallon ziplock. I can cook just about anything with this set up.
This is a baller thermos. You fill it with boiling water for a few minutes to heat the inside, pour out the water, and put in your hot food. It’s still steaming hot after 6-8 hours – perfect for long car rides through the middle of nowhere
These burlap reusable HEB bags are the best reusable grocery bags, period. They are great stuff haulers and great to take to the beach, etc.
Nope, not bazillion dollar Yeti coolers, but these $60 ones are incredible, you should buy some.
This is our beach and travel day cooler. It comes with a hard plastic insert, which we tossed. It’s a fantastic tiny cooler!
Here’s how everything except our instant pot, coolers, and grocery bags fits into our travel kitchen
