I have a packing list for just about every activity and type of travel under the sun. Below I’ve shared my core lists for each of the 3 of us for just about any trip. These lists work for a weekend away or a 2 month stint in Europe. I don’t bring every single thing listed on every trip (nor is this the complete list of stuff we brought with us for the Big Trip), but it’s hard to forget any necessities with such a huge master list. Pick and choose what works for you.
Travis thought it would be funny to slip a short anecdote in here about how I’d forgotten something because I failed to check my packing list, or pre-packing list. This has never happened. However, here are some of the things Travis has left behind (even though I made him a master packing list years ago, because he doesn’t check it unless forced): toothbrush, underwear, shirts (yes, shirts), socks, phone charger, belt, hat, deodorant, teddy bear – you know what, just check the list below and at one point or another, he’s forgotten. Love you, Trav ; )
Keep in mind that you can pack a week’s worth of clothes and be good for just about any length of time. We also have travel-sized everything. I take about the same amount of stuff for a week in Manhattan as I do for months away. Always take less than you think you’ll need. You get in to packing trouble when you start needing to bring stuff for activities like hiking, biking, skiing, etc. It becomes impossible to do carry-on only at that point. In any case, I hope this is helpful. Here you go:
Amanda:
- shirts, pants, shorts, skirts, dress, bras (sport and regular), undies, pajamas, exercise/activity/yoga clothes. All shirts should match all pants and skirts.
- shoes (exercise, casual, dressy). I just traded my Toms, a pair of flats, and some strappy sandals for 1 shiny new pair of chestnut Tieks that go with everything I own.
- jacket/rain jacket
- contacts, contact solution, eye drops, extra contacts, glasses
- supplements and prescription medication
